Microsoft investigating long-known vulnerability in IE

Microsoft last Friday said it was looking into a long-known vulnerability in Internet Explorer (IE) that could be used to access users' data and Web-based accounts.

The bug can allow hackers to hijack Web mail accounts, steal data, and send illicit tweets, said Google security engineer Chris Evans in a message posted on the Full Disclosure mailing list.

Samsung announces dual-core mobile processor

Samsung has announced a dual-core application processor for tablets PCs, netbooks, and smartphones that will be able to handle 1080p video playback and recording, the company said on Tuesday.

The Orion processor contains a pair of 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 cores, and its capabilities give a hint at what we can expect from mobile products in 2011.

Ohio bans offshoring -- but gives tax relief to outsourcing firm

Toshiba Satellite laptops recalled for burn hazard

The U.S. and Canadian governments this week said that Toshiba is voluntarily recalling some Satellite laptops for posing a burn hazard to customers.

Laptops could overheat and possibly melt the area around the notebook's plug-in to the AC adapter, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada said in a joint statement.
